The Naga Jolokia was once declared the hottest chilli pepper in the world. By now, other chilli peppers have taken this place. The Naga Jolokia finds its origin in India. A bite of this chilli pepper is comparable to the bite of a king cobra. “Naga” is also the translation of King Cobra in Assamese (the region in India where the chilli pepper originates). The chilli pepper has an orange, red or brown colour and rough skin.

These chilli peppers are mainly used in curries or chilli dishes This chilli pepper is also very tasty when used in marinades (for example on chicken legs). This chilli pepper is only suitable for people who are used to spicy food.

Make sure to wear gloves when preparing the chilli pepper or wash your hands with soap afterwards to prevent irritation to your skin. Did you know that if you have eaten chilli peppers that are (too) hot, you can cool your mouth with yoghurt or milk?
