San Marzano tomatoes are a classic pear-shaped tomato from Italy. This tomato is fleshy and juicy, has thin skin, few seeds and a rich flavour. The centuries-old variety of plum tomato ripens from the inside out. Even though it may still look a little green, it is ripe and full of flavour.
Because of their rich flavour, San Marzano tomatoes are often used in soups, sauces, pasta sauces and salads, but also as a topping on hamburgers or in wraps. Peeled, chopped and mashed San Marzano tomatoes are used on the original Italian pizza.
The San Marzano is a pear-shaped tomato, with a length of 8 to 10 cm, a diameter of 3 to 5.5 cm and weighs 60 to 140 g.
